Horror Movies Worth Watching

I've talked about horror movies before, but this time I want to break down which horror movies you should watch for halloween. 



Halloween (1978)

How appropriate right? Right. The original Halloween is a must-watch for October 31st at least every couple of years. Why? Let's start with the awesome premise: a 6-year-old stabs his sister to death because she wouldn't take him trick-or-treating. Realistic? No. But we still think it could happen to us. Michael Myers is the epitome of "he's standing right behind you" scare tactics that resonate today. Watching a silent killer systematically murder innocent people on Halloween night is really what Halloween is all about. 




The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)

Ok this is a good suggestion because most people saw this last year, so this halloween is a great opportunity to check out this instant classic a second time. This is one of my favorite horror movies just because it capitalizes on things that horror movies take for granted. This movie isn't afraid to thoroughly explain the confusing things that go on. Example: the movie takes place in a house that was once a funeral home. A family moves in, and the son with cancer becomes relentlessly haunted by unknown entities. The reason for this explained without being stupid and shallow, plus the movie is based on a true story (loosely) with real photographs at the end (that are freaky). Finally, this is the only horror movie that I've watched that had a jaw-dropping twist. Just sayin'.


The Strangers (2007)

The beauty of simplicity. If you want a horror movie that you and your friends can watch without really paying attention (you know what I mean) then look no further. The entire movie takes place within one night when a couple is terrorized by three strangers The plot is extremely simple, all you have to do is watch the bloody horror and even keep the volume down for halloween conversation (or whatever the kids call it). Trust me, the scariest movies can be unrealistic and realistic at the same time. Like Halloween, this movie would never really happen right? You will doubt yourself.


Any Saw movie 
If you and your friends are fans of gore, why not have a Saw marathon? Most of us have only seen a couple of these movies like once, so this could make a gruesome halloween night. If you've never seen Saw, you should definitely check out the first one (probably the best one). Just keep in mind that these movies are not for the faint of heart...Oh and bad news! Saw 3D sucks. Well I don't know that for real, I'm just indicating what's been going around. Hey maybe you're not a conformist.

Paranormal Activity (2009)
If you feel like staying in on halloween night, renting Paranormal Activity is a safe bet, especially if you plan on seeing the sequel that's in theaters right now. This is another simple horror movie that focuses on a young couple being haunted by a menacing demon while they sleep. The couple decides to film the activity they sense that is going on, so they set up a camera in their bedroom. By doing this, they begin to see just what is haunting them. 

The Ring (2002)
Hey! Here's a new classic that we can rely on. Watching people getting marauded by a demonized girl because they watched a video tape is awesome. Who didn't pranked their friends after the movie by calling them and saying "seven days"? Few people.

Scream (1996)
Who said horror movies can't have a dark sense of humor? Someone depressing I bet. Before we had Scary Movie, we had subtlety. In other words, we had this movie. Few horror movies mess with the audience so much. Just when you thought the evil guy was him, you changed your mind. Hey! You thought that the killer was going to kill him just then! Nope! Now he did! 

Remakes of classic horror movies
 (The Fog, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street)
Don't watch any of these...the originals are wayyy better. However, the Halloween remakes are pretty cool and worth watching if you haven't yet.
