Movie Stars on TV

Recently, Timothy Olyphant (Live Free, Die Hard; Hitman, Crazies) made his debut as an ace salesman on The Office. Not only that, he has been starring in the hit FX show Justified and of course Deadwood, which is hitting its second season. The lines between TV and movies seem to be blurring as more and more actors are shuffling between the small and large screen.

Katherine Heigl

From her early days in the short-lived television show Roswell to her big break on Grey's Anatomy, Heigl has been on the radar for quite a while now. Unfortunately, her transition to the big screen has been pretty rough excluding Knocked Up. Sorry Katherine, but Ugly Truth was boring and Life as We Know It...well let's just say it didn't seem like you were really trying.

Emma Stone
Regarded as one of the rising female stars in Hollywood, Stone has amassed a pretty long list of credits in her short time as an actress. The New Partridge Family broke her into the television game, but her Superbad role as the infamous Jules got her foot into the proverbial door. Along the way, she has had dozens of roles in different shows like Malcom in the Middle, Medium, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Drive. Aside from her recent appearance on SNL, Stone has gradually grown out of the small screen with impressive movies like The Rocker, House Bunny, Zombieland, Marmaduke, and Easy A. Plus, she is slated to appear in the Spider-man reboot as well as the 21 Jumpstreet reboot.

Steve Carell
It took him a while, but Carell became the megastar he is due to his awesome comedic timing and memorable roles. TV was his start though. Few know this, but Carell actually performed on the sketch show The Dana Carvey Show back in '96 and Over the Top in 1997. After a few side roles in shows and movies (Anchorman people), Carell got his name out with The 40-Year-Old Virgin. His star role in The Office has firmly established him as an A-list actor in both TV and movies. He may not have youth working for him, but his ability to make audiences cry with his one-liners has made him famous all over the world. Carell has delivered plenty of funny movies (Get Smart, Date Night, Despicable Me, Dinner for Schmucks just to name a few) while keeping The Office as one of the funniest shows on TV.

So what can we deduce from this? Well as you can see, some of the best TV stars are also the best Movie stars, and vice-versa. Another trend that I usually see is that most people get their start on TV, but aren't there yet until they tackle the big screen. Luckily, you can see that we have a deep pool of talented actors to keep us entertained for years to come.
