Due Date Vs. Megamind

Hey all, sorry for the long break! Time to get down to movie business. Let's face it, the past few weeks have been horrendous for moviegoers. Unless you love to watch horror movies sequels every weekend, you've probably found little to love at the movies. Never fear, Megamind and Due Date are here. Both movies slammed the box office this weekend with robust openings totaling over $50 million. So which one is worth watching?
Let's crunch the facts guys. Megamind had a bigger opening than Due Date and is getting high ratings. In fact, Megamind scored a 64/100 on Metacritic. That looks pretty good compared to Due Date hitting a modest 52/100 (Metacritic scores are average scores compiled by critics and are the easiest way to pick up consensus on a film). So should you watch Megamind over Due Date?

Well I'm getting ahead of myself. After all, not everyone knows what these movies are. Here's a basic synopsis:

Megamind: This is an animated comedy in the vein of Despicable Me and Shrek. It's basically a non-Pixar movie that's pretty good. It's about two aliens from two different worlds who are sent to earth after their galaxy is destroyed. The two aliens live completely different lives. The "bad" alien is raised on a prison and is known as "Megamind" (he has a huge head). The "good" alien is raised by a family and becomes known as "Metroman" (think Superman voiced by Brad Pitt. I know right?). These two very different aliens become cliche archenemies until Metroman quits and Megamind has to take his place as a superhero. It really is an interesting concept and I encourage you to see the trailer. I'll be posting my review of Megamind soon, but it's safe to say that this is an animated comedy worth watching. Oh and the main character is voiced by Will Farell.

That was a good idea
Due Date: Animated comedies not for you? Check out Due Date. Fans of The Hangover will recognize Zack Galifianakis pairing up with Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr. for a raunchy "r" comedy. The movie is about a man (Downey Jr.) trying to get across the country to his wife who is in labor. He enlists the help of a random oddball (Galifianakis) who consistently gets him into trouble. Critics aren't going easy on this film, but I can say that fans are going crazy for this film. I can't guarantee anything until I see it for myself, but casual moviegoers are drinking this movie's kool-aid (and hopefully for good reason).
