Getting Excited About Green Lantern

D.C. fans: Your prayers have been answered. Green Lantern will soon be upon us. Let's take a look at the new movie and what it may have in store for us avid moviegoers.
Comic book movies have literally defined movies for this decade. From X-Men and Spider-man in the early 2000's to Iron Man and the Dark Knight, we have seen all of these comic book favorites come alive on the big screen. This could probably be remembered as the decade of the smash hit blockbusters. These movies have made billions of dollars cashing in on our kid-at-heart desires to see our favorite superheroes in movies.


So now we have the latest D.C. movie coming out soon. We have to remember, however, that D.C. has only had a few solid hits on their hands like the Batman series. I mean, Superman Returns anybody? I'm guessing that Warner Brothers (the D.C. studio at least for now) is hoping that they can mimic the impact that Marvel has made with its many hits like the upcoming Avengers movies. 


Now, I will say that the trailer shows promise. I was pretty skeptical about a Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern...even though I've always liked the guy's movies. I love Van Wilder, Definitely Maybe, and even The Proposal. I just had a hard time thinking about him making the transition to superhero. I mean, for some actors it just makes sense (Christian Bale, Toby Maguire). After watching this trailer, however, I am starting to see how this could work out for Green Lantern.

The trailer shows us Reynolds portraying Hal Jordan, a boyish daredevil who flies planes with hot girls like Blake Lively who get on his case. Don't worry, it gets more interesting. After ejecting over an unspecified wasteland, Hal sees a spaceship crash with an alien onboard. The dying alien reveals that he is a Green Lantern, a space "cop" so to speak who works for a peacekeeping society far from earth. His powers stem from a glowing ring that he promptly gives to Hal who accepts it wholeheartedly. The trailer shows off some excellent sci-fi effects in action. We see the Green Lantern learning how to hone his powers on earth and even travel to the Green Lantern world.

The movie simply looks big. The scale and size of the movie's plot look like they can feed an entire audience of blockbuster fans. So, I am excited. While I prefer the Marvel movies, I have a gut feeling that D.C. may have a winner with this one.
